Insight Media Announces Best Buzz Awards for SIDInsight Media, the leader in microdisplay-based market research, is proud to announce that Sony Corporation and Brillian Corporation have won our Best Buzz Awards for the Society for Information Display (SID) conference and exposition, which was held in Seattle, Washington in the third week of May. Sony wins for its new innovative Wavelength Selective front-projection screen technology, and Brillian wins for its demonstration of two top-quality 1920 x 1080 resolution LCOS-RPTVs. Sonys new front-projection screen is made on a polymer substrate with a black light-absorbing layer. On top of this, a special wavelength selective layer is added that essentially provides high reflectance in the red, green and blue parts of the spectrum to produce a high-contrast, wide viewing angle screen. Such technology could help open up the consumer front-projection market where ambient light washout of the image is a major impediment to rapid adoption. Brillian gets its award for showing two 1920 x 1080 LCOS-RPTV demonstrators using two different color management systems. One featured the UltreX-3 color core from JDSU and the other the Vikuiti core from 3M Optical Systems. Both produced sharp, crisp, beautiful images on 65-inch demonstrators, setting a high standard for 1080p performance in a microdisplay-based RPTV. Receiving Good Buzz Awards are:
