Aurora Systems, Inc. (San Jose, CA) (www.aurora-sys.com)
recently announced development of the ASI6000, a 0.7-inch
diagonal 1080p (1920 x 1080) resolution LCOS microdisplay
panel, and ASI6100 companion driver intended for rear-projection
television (RPTV) applications.
The new device uses the same basic silicon design as the
ASI5000/5100 720p (1280 x 768) resolution panel already
in volume production, but has a higher bandwidth to provide
full HD capability. The ASI6000 device was designed to have
the same active area (15.360 x 9.216 mm) as the ASI5000
and to have a mechanically compatible package. This provides
a simple upgrade path for existing customers of the ASI5000/5100,
as it minimizes changes to existing optical system designs.

As with previous LCOS products from Aurora, the new device uses
an all-digital-drive technology, which enables the company to
take full advantage of a lower cost base offered through use of
standard CMOS process technology. A further benefit of the all-digital-drive,
realized during mass production, is the ability to make simple
repeatable adjustments in picture quality. Other key specs of
the ASI6000 include high contrast (>1000:1), VAN mode LC, an
87% fill factor, 8-micron pixel pitch
and it operates on
a single 3.3-volt power supply.
Aurora plans to make development kits for ASI6000/6100 available
to customers in Q105.
