Headset Markets Show Signs of Renaissance

11.15.2002

Head-mounted displays have not yet gained much market acceptance or commercial success. In fact, the landscape is littered with failed efforts, products and companies. Despite this, product and application development have continued. Now, there are emerging signs that are giving the survivors reasons to be optimistic.

For example, in our recently released "Microdisplay Forecast and Company Profile Report," we looked at five market segments for microdisplay-based products: Presentations, Home Entertainment, Monitors, Viewfinders and Embedded Near-Eye Displays, and Headsets. Our forecast predicts that in 2004, total headset shipments will rise to 240K from only 52K in 2002. And, by 2006, nearly one million headsets will ship.
