InFocus to Supply Thomson with Microdisplay Engine Technology

03.17.2003

InFocus Corporation (Wilsonville, OR) (www.infocus.com) has announced it will design and build DLP engines for Thomson's (www.thomson.net) RCA Scenium 50-inch rear projection HDTV scheduled for release in the second half of 2003. InFocus' microdisplay engines are designed to Thomson specifications and will incorporate the TI DLP Mustang/HD2 chip. Thomson previewed the RCA Scenium HDLP50W151 at CES in January 2003.

The HDLP50W151 (MSRP $4,499) will include Ethernet connectivity for networking and Internet browsing, an ATSC tuner to receive digital broadcasts. Digital inputs include HDMI/HDCP and IEEE 1394 with DTCP copy protection. Like all RCA Scenium HDTV Sets and Monitors it also includes two component video inputs. The unit weights under 100 pounds and is only 16 inches deep.

InFocus, which claims to be the world's largest volume manufacturer of TI's Digital Light Processing (DLP) engines, touts its core engineering and design expertise, derived from eight generations of DLP engine production that has also resulted in numerous design patents.
InFocus said it expects to collaborate on future high-definition home theater products with an emphasis on new high-performance DLP visual displays.
