Panasonic (Secaucus, NJ) (www.pansonic.com)
has added a third model to its growing line of HTPS RPTVs. The
PT-50LC13 is a 50-inch set that complements existing widescreen
models at 40 and 45 inches and will ship in June for $3,499.
The 80-pound, 16-inch deep PT-50LC13 is multimedia ready so it
can display a wide variety of video and data material, but does
not include an internal HDTV decoder. It does have a PCMCIA/SD
Memory Card slot for greater versatility in viewing digital slide
shows, however. Built-in twin NTSC tuners allow PIP of video and
PC sources.
Also included is Panasonic's 3D Y/C digital comb filter, built-in
stereo speakers, and BBE high-definition sound processing technology,
Progressive Cinema Scan (3/2 pull-down). In addition to the front
PCMCIA/SD slot, the PT-50LC13 also has a full package of audio/video
inputs: four A/V inputs, four S-Video inputs and two component
inputs. Additional specs won't be available until March.

In a lineup of RPTVs at CES, the PT-50LC13 was the brightest
unit and provided some of the best images.
In October, Panasonic is likely to add a 60-inch model to
its line too. Both the 50- and 60-inch models will be able
to support a $500 optional POD module. This plug-in module
will be supplied by the cable TV company and will be about
the size of a PCMCIA card. It will decode regular and premium
cable TV, as well as ATSC and NTSC. Very nice.
Panasonic also added to its line of CRT RPTVs at CES by
introducing the PT-56WXF53 (56-inch screen), PT-53WXF53
(53-inch screen) and PT-47WX53 (47-inch screen). These widescreen
sets are all fully HDTV compatible (1080i/480p) and offer
PIP, 10-bit A/D image processing and progressive scan conversion,
a 3:2 pull-down, and built-in 30W speakers with BBE igh-efinition
sound system. All will ship in May.
